Life with Dysphagia: Knocking down social & ethical barriers

  • Appealing Descriptions for Modified Textures;

ARC Seminars sets itself apart from the competition in many ways!

  • We provide guidance and support for setting up your own program! ARC Seminars not only provide education and guidance within the seminar to set up your own program, but we will also provide you with follow up guidance and support after the seminar to ensure that your program is successful!
  • Most courses are aimed at the widest audience possible, in order to get as many participants as possible. While that can be a great way of getting professionals from different fields together, it is not always conducive to working through specific problems, and can make the information very vague, theoretical, and general. ARC Seminars are specific to the field of hospital-based rehabilitation, and we have many years of experience in treating and developing procedures for treatment in rehabilitation facilities.
  • ARC Seminars uses the most up to date and evidence based techniques to ensure your participation in the course is translated to the most learning and carryover possible!
  • Materials: You will be provided with a comprehensive manual of all the presentation slides,  exclusive access to Dysphagia Management tools, cheat sheets, handouts, and assessments to help carry over your new skills into practice!

What will you learn?

By the completion of this course, the participant will:

  • Recognize the personal and social impact of dysphagia on individuals and caregivers
  • Identify eating behavior and lifestyle changes influenced by dysphagia
  • Explain the ethical principles faced by the medical community in regard to dysphagia management

Testimonial from Physicians

I attended this course in August of 2017, and was very impressed by the information given and the physical training. With my background in osteopathy, I have learned manual techniques before, but a manual and hands-on approach to the management of commonly seen edema was novel, and extremely useful to me. I would recommend any nurse, therapist, or fellow physician who deals with patients struggling with edema (of any sort) attend this seminar and be educated in this up-to-date, insightful approach to edema management.

Update your Care Plan: Heart Failure

Update your Care Plan: Heart Failure

Congestive Heart Failure is an intimidating and devastating condition, for patients and caregivers alike. Rehabilitation for those with Heart Failure is under-represented, and often part of a ‘cardiac rehab’ protocol- though the needs of those with HF can be very different.

This seminar provides an overview of Congestive Heart Failure, updated evidence and treatment pathways, and information that therapists and nurses working with patients will find practical and usable. CHF affects 23 million people worldwide, and over 6 million people in the US alone. Increasingly, people with CHF are receiving post-acute care in rehabilitation hospitals and at home, and the clinicians caring for them need up-to-date and effective information to provide the best care possible.

Presented by a physical therapist with years of experience in in-patient rehab (acute and sub-acute) and home-care, this course discusses common fears and misconceptions, debunks myths related to treatment, and provides the participant with education to make informed decisions about the plan of care they design.  Useful ‘cheat sheets’, assessment tools, supplies and an extensive manual inform the package that is included with this practical and user-friendly seminar.

We have adapted this information to then be immediately applicable to the clinician working in the home, with tools and resources that can be used the next day!

Update your Care Plan: Heart Failure

Schedule

0:00:00- 0:10:00 – Introduction: Learning goals, outcomes of the class

0:10:00 – 0:35:00 – Mythbusters and Evidence Overview

0:35:00 – 0:55:00 – What is Heart Failure?

0:55:00 -1:15:00 – Treatments and Guidelines

1:15:00 – 1:40:00 – Clinical Pathways

1:40:00 – 1:55:00- Community Resources

1:55:00 – 2:00:00- Conclusion and Looking ahead

Course Objectives:

  • Differentiate the different types of heart failure, and how to identify them in clinical practice.
  • Distinguish how to proceed with treatment based on the New York Heart Association Functional Classification scale.
  • Identify co-morbidities that are highly correlated with heart failure and their implications on clinical practice.
  • Review a comprehensive review of the literature related to clinical pathways and treatment of heart failure.
  • List resources for patients and caregivers, to identify risk factors and warning signs associated with heart failure.
  • Review an individualized treatment plan based on history and assessment findings presented in case studies.
  • Identify continued care and community support, and their role in heart failure rehab.

What makes Update your care plan: Heart Failure different?

As a clinician working with patients who have a variety of conditions, including heart failure, you need practical and effective skills and information to bring to this population. This is a short, powerful online webinar- you will leave with a good working knowledge of CHF, how to upgrade your plan of care, and be armed with tools and resources that you will be able to implement immediately.

An exclusive and copyrighted manual, resources, and cheat sheets are included with course admission; and will ensure that the information you learn can be translated back into practice the very next day.

ARC also provides thorough follow up post seminar, as it is our mission to provide practical education to the busy healthcare professional. An online support group that you will access after attending an ARC Seminar will give you support and continued education, as well as peer interaction and guidance for carrying out interventions and troubleshooting. ARC Consultants can also be reached for personal guidance and to make sure that your education is paying for itself.

Cancer Care: A Collaborative Approach

What will you learn?

1. Identify the general patho-physiology of cancer, as well as the four most common cancers.

2. Differentiate the common treatments, expected side effects and reportable toxicities of each of these cancers.

3. Discuss common myths and fears related to cancer care and physical/occupational/speech therapy, dispel those myths and teach patients, caregivers and family members ways to cope with those fears through education.

4. Design or add to a care plan based on assessment finding, including goals related to the direction of care (i.e. curative, survivorship, end of life, palliative or hospice).

5. Differentiate ways in which the direction of care may change, and demonstrate clearly how to refine and update goals, insuring communication to the rest of the team.

6. Identify possible complications, emergencies requiring immediate action (oncologic emergencies) and what resources within the community are available.

What makes this course different?

Cancer Care for therapists and nurses is an under-discussed topic, and many clinicians feel uncomfortable providing treatment. However, this hands-on and dynamic seminar provides a thorough and efficient look through some common fears, debunks strategies and myths that have been holding treatment back, looks at usable and effective interventions, and brings the information to an easy-to-use level with excellent manuals, supplies, handouts, and tools developed by consultants at ARC. Update your Care Plan: Balance Rehab

Update your Care Plan: Balance Rehab

Falls and losses of balance in the elderly, home dwelling population are a major cause of cost and concern for clients and clinicians that work in the home. Many clinicians find themselves providing the same types of intervention year after year, with no time to review current best practice literature or to think of and develop home exercise programs and safety strategies to provide to their patients.

This 3.5 hour seminar focuses on evidence-based and current research being performed with the elderly population in the realm of balance rehabilitation at home. We have adapted this information to then be immediately applicable to the clinician working in the home, with tools and resources that can be used the next day.

Preventing falls and rehabilitating balance is an area that will continue to be crucial as the population ages and care-at-home takes priority for reimbursement.

What will you learn?
  • Identify the sensory and motor components that interact within our balance system
  • Differentiate between various internal and environmental causes of imbalance
  • Demonstrate appropriate patient assessments based on patient history and nature of balance impairment
  • Design an individualized home-based program based on assessment findings and identify when modification is needed
  • Identify compensatory strategies and when to implement
  • Appreciate a comprehensive review of current literature regarding balance rehabilitation and apply to chosen interventions
