Description:
Edema is a condition chronically under-recognized and undertreated. Inpatient rehabilitation is an environment is which the opportunity to assess, educate and treat patients with edema can lead to far improved outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, decreased re-admissions and better quality of life. There are many conditions and injuries, including lymphedema, orthopedic injury and repair, venous insufficiency and organ failure that lead to edematous limbs. This impacts mobility, comfort, basic activities of daily living, and skin integrity, leading to progressive disability. Edema can be treated and managed successfully through Complete Decongestive Therapy.
This course provides clinicians with a thorough understanding of the processes of edema, the assessment and management of edema, and the value in establishing such programs in inpatient settings. Attendees will learn about the clinical presentations of many types of edema, the methodology through which edema is treated, and the value of Complete Decongestive Therapy. This seminar empowers clinicians with the skills required to recognize and manage edema, and educate patients in maximizing their quality of life through controlling chronic swelling.
What will you learn?
– Apply knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system to the treatment of edema

ARC Seminars sets itself apart from the competition in many ways!
- Pre-reading: In order to limit the amount of time spent on didactic teaching, ARC Seminars will provide you with a thorough pre-reading list prior to participation in the course. You can then get the most out of the course by engaging in hands on techniques and by asking us specific, case based problems to solve!
- Most courses are aimed at the widest audience possible, in order to get as many participants as possible. While that can be a great way of getting professionals from different fields together, it is not always conducive to working through specific problems, and can make the information very vague, theoretical, and general. ARC Seminars are specific to the field of hospital-based rehabilitation, and we have many years of experience in treating and developing procedures for treatment in rehabilitation facilities.
- We provide guidance and support for setting up your own program! ARC Seminars not only provide education and guidance within the seminar to set up your own program, but we will also provide you with follow up guidance and support after the seminar to ensure that your program is successful!
- ARC Seminars uses the most up to date and evidence based techniques to ensure your participation in the course is translated to the most learning and carryover possible!
- Materials: You will be provided with a comprehensive manual of all the presentation slides, exclusive access to our Edema Assessment Tool, a limited amount of edema management supplies, and other tools provided by our sponsors!

Check out one of our clients’ skin improvement after ten days treatment! She had gone decades with constant skin breakdown, wounds, and subsequent re-admissions to hospital. By addressing her skin integrity issues through effective edema management techniques, she is able to be more mobile, more independent, and at less risk of infection and hospitalization.
This client had a proximal humerus fracture, and the pressure from edema in her skin was about to start breaking the skin on her elbow down (notice how shiny the skin at the elbow region is). The second picture is taken one week later, where her swelling has gone down, her skin integrity has completely improved, and she reported far less discomfort and pain. These techniques work very well for orthopedic injuries!
Using appropriate manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandages, skin care and exercises, you can help your patients improve their quality of life, decrease re-admissions to hospital, and improve mobility.

Testimonial from Physicians
I attended this course in August of 2017, and was very impressed by the information given and the physical training. With my background in osteopathy, I have learned manual techniques before, but a manual and hands-on approach to the management of commonly seen edema was novel, and extremely useful to me. I would recommend any nurse, therapist, or fellow physician who deals with patients struggling with edema (of any sort) attend this seminar and be educated in this up-to-date, insightful approach to edema management.
