Check out the Self-Paced Version!

Description:

Living with dysphagia has a massive personal and social impact, both on individuals and their caregivers. However, the social impact and ethical aspects of dysphagia management are rarely discussed, and can lead to many dilemmas for clinicians. In this 3 hour course, the impact on personal and social eating behaviors are examined, and interventions to lessen the impact are outlined. Approaches to care, caregiver burden, condition-specific treatments, case studies, and ethical dilemmas are discussed here with a lively and experienced presenter!

Handouts included in the course:

  • A Caregiver Grocery Guide;
  • Appealing Descriptions for Modified Textures;
  • ‘Say This, not That!’ series for educating staff and caregivers;
  • and an exclusive Assessment, ‘Eating Behavior Case History’

These clinic-tested, copyrighted tools ensure you will be able to put the education and skills you learn into IMMEDIATE practical use!

ARC Seminars sets itself apart from the competition in many ways!

  • We provide guidance and support for setting up your own program! ARC Seminars not only provide education and guidance within the seminar to set up your own program, but we will also provide you with follow up guidance and support after the seminar to ensure that your program is successful!
  • Most courses are aimed at the widest audience possible, in order to get as many participants as possible. While that can be a great way of getting professionals from different fields together, it is not always conducive to working through specific problems, and can make the information very vague, theoretical, and general. ARC Seminars are specific to the field of hospital-based rehabilitation, and we have many years of experience in treating and developing procedures for treatment in rehabilitation facilities.
  • ARC Seminars uses the most up to date and evidence based techniques to ensure your participation in the course is translated to the most learning and carryover possible!
  • Materials: You will be provided with a comprehensive manual of all the presentation slides,  exclusive access to Dysphagia Management tools, cheat sheets, handouts, and assessments to help carry over your new skills into practice!

What will you learn?

By the completion of this course, the participant will:

  • Recognize the personal and social impact of dysphagia on individuals and caregivers
  • Identify eating behavior and lifestyle changes influenced by dysphagia
  • Explain the ethical principles faced by the medical community in regard to dysphagia management

Testimonial from Physicians

I attended this course in August of 2017, and was very impressed by the information given and the physical training. With my background in osteopathy, I have learned manual techniques before, but a manual and hands-on approach to the management of commonly seen edema was novel, and extremely useful to me. I would recommend any nurse, therapist, or fellow physician who deals with patients struggling with edema (of any sort) attend this seminar and be educated in this up-to-date, insightful approach to edema management.
